The Thomaston campus of Skipstone Academy, which will soon become Crestside Christian Academy, alongside Brightmark and GFL Environmental, partnered for a collaborative recycling program presented by City of Thomaston and the Thomaston-Upson Industrial Development Authority.
Students at the school were asked to bring clean, collected recyclables including plastics, metals, and cardboard to the classroom. Each grade competed to collect the most material and the top three grades were awarded a prize. Winners were announced on Earth Day, April 22.
In all, 100 bins of recyclable materials were collected.
The sixth-grade class won first place with 18 bins. Second grade and fourth grade tied at 17 bins, and third grade finished third with 16 bins.
Students from Skipstone’s sixth-grade class will get to see a movie at the Ritz Theater and enjoy a pizza party at Thomaston Exchange.
